Objectives

The aim of the project is to apply these viticultural and oenological protocols for the management of certain types of high-potential calcareous soils in the Menfi area, on Sicily's southwest coast. This translates into adopting special agronomic and oenological techniques to enhance the organoleptic qualities of the grapes and at the same time cope with climatic changes without affecting the quality standards of the wines.

The viticultural innovations adopted will make it possible to solve many problems caused by climate change in terms of managing irrigation and optimising the microclimate of the foliage, soil erosion, improving the organic substance content and saving fertilisers while guaranteeing the wellbeing of the root systems. Oenological innovations aim to improve the quality of wines in terms of complexity, more persistent aromas and flavours, longevity and stability, giving greater terroir distinctiveness. These results can be transferred as an example to other regional and extra-regional realities with similar climatic and soil characteristics.
